Is All Water Created Equal?

As an avid water drinker, I always stress on the importance of staying hydrated. Yes, drinking 8 glasses a day is a good rule of thumb to know, but there is also a more accurate way of knowing as well. If your urine is a light yellow, or even clear color when you go to the bathroom, that’s how you know you’ve been drinking enough water throughout the day.

Water is nature’s medicine and every living thing needs it in order to survive. It’s important to drink water that is clean and that doesn’t contain any harmful chemicals or toxins. Just because water is clear, doesn’t make it safe to drink. You can test your water at home with a kit like this one to see what’s really in your tap water. A lot of tap water is filled with harmful chemicals that the water has absorbed traveling through the water pipes. It may not make you feel sick instantly, but contaminated water can cause hormonal issues, inflammation in your body, and elevate your body’s pH.

Fun Fact: Our body’s are made of up to 60% water, and it only takes 2 days to replenish all of the water in our body.

Staying hydrated helps with:

  • Energy levels

  • Proper immune system function

  • Weight-loss

  • Sleep

  • Inhibits food cravings

  • Aids in detoxifying your body

  • Anti-inflammatory

  • Hydrated skin

  • Aids in digestion

  • Relieves constipation

  • +so much more

Two types of water I recommend drinking:

Spring Water

Spring water contain nourishing minerals that your body needs like magnesium, calcium, sodium, and potassium. It is also alkalizing, meaning it has a low pH level and is non-acidic. This inhibits inflammation in your body and keeps your joints, skin, and bones hydrated. Live spring water delivers oxygen to the celles, balances your body’s pH, fights bacteria and viruses, remineralizes your brain, and improves liver and hormone function (1).

Molecular Hydrogen Water

Now imagine all of the benefits of spring water and water combined, times two! So what is molecular hydrogen water exactly? Hydrogen is extremely reactive and almost immediately bonds with another hydrogen atoms to form molecular hydrogen, or H2 gas. Due to its uniquely small size, mass, and neutral charge, H2 is able to more effectively penetrate not only cell membranes but also the blood-brain barrier and even the cell nucleus—where it's thought to protect DNA and enhance mitochondrial health (2). It’s also absorbed directly into one's bloodstream which heightens the healing properties of H2 water.

Hydrogen water is:

  • Rich in antioxidants and has been shown to prevent brain damage (3).

  • Suppresses inflammation in the body (4).

  • Reduces muscle fatigue and muscle degeneration (5).

  • Helps in weight loss and inhibits metabolic syndrome (6).

I was a bit skeptical at first when I heard about molecular hydrogen water, but after testing it out on myself and drinking it religiously for a few weeks, I really notice the positive effects. I have more energy when working out, sleep better, my skin is soft and clearer than before, and I really like how it tastes as well. I know, water doesn’t really taste like anything, but you have to experience it for yourself, the water is silky and easy to drink.

P.S. If you’re interested in trying H2 water for yourself you can apply to be a part of the Trusii system case study and test it out at no cost! All you have to do is mention my name when you fill out your application here. You can also try these H2 water tablets for FREE.

Infused Water

This recipe is part of Dig Inn's Wellness Series. Dig Inn is a farm-to-counter restaurant serving up real, good food here in NYC with a focus on seasonal, vegetable-friendly cooking.

Not only are these waters pretty to look at, but they are also flavorful and detoxifying. I recommend drinking plenty of water throughout the day, about 9 glasses, and infusing your water adds a fun twist to an everyday routine. Getting bored of drinking plain old water every day?  Using fresh organic ingredients guarantees flavor and beneficial nutrients.

I decided to make 4 different recipes, although I wanted to make way more! The combinations are unlimited!

I used large 800 ML mason jars for this recipe. For more flavor allow these to infuse overnight. You can stir and drink them right away, but they will have more flavor the longer they sit. I also continue to refill them with water once I’ve finished drinking them, until the fruit doesn’t have any more juice to ad to the water. You can get about 2-3 servings per jar.

Pineapple Ginger Infused Water

My favorite flavor was the pineapple and ginger infused water. The pineapple adds a nice tart sweetness and the ginger adds a little spice. Pineapple is extremely rich in vitamin C, Vitamin B-6, potassium, magnesium, and antioxidants. Did you know that pineapple contains half of the daily-recommended value of vitamin C? Fresh pineapple is not only sweet and delicious, but it also aids in detoxing your body, thanks to the presence of bromelian, a powerful digestive enzyme. This enzyme has been proven to aid in digesting protein, breaking down fats, and reducing inflammation. Pineapple is also packed with manganese, which has been recommended by nutritionists as a way to boost your mood if you’re experiencing symptoms of PMS.  Ginger helps to alleviate pain and inflammation, stimulates circulation, and also settles your stomach if feeling nauseous.

  • 1 cup pineapple chunks
  • 2 inch piece of ginger (thinly sliced)
  • Water

Strawberry, Cucumber, and Mint Infused Water

The second recipe is infused with cucumber, strawberries, and fresh mint. Cucumbers are known to reduce your risk of cancer, fight inflammation, and the B vitamins found in cucumbers help to manage stress. Strawberries are an immunity booster because they are an excellent source of vitamin C. They also promote eye health, fight bad cholesterol, and aid in weight management. Mint calms indigestion, is a natural stimulant and fights against fatigue and depression. It also contains an antioxidant, which is known to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergies. This mixture is super powerful!

  •  ¼ cucumber thinly sliced
  • 5 strawberries
  • 3 sprigs of mint leaves
  • Water

Orange, Kiwi, and Blueberry Infused Water

The orange, kiwi, and blueberry infused water is citrusy and delicious! Oranges are full of vitamin C and great for immunity, and are full of beta-carotene, which is a powerful antioxidant that protects cells from being damaged. Kiwi’s are rich is vitamin C and this helps to improve skin texture, prevent damage caused by the sun, and smooth wrinkles. The blueberries are rich in antioxidants, which are also great for your skin.

  • 1 small orange
  • 1 kiwi
  • ¼ cup blueberries
  • Water

Melon Infused Water

The melon water is infused with watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew melon. This is rich in vitamin C and Vitamin A, and Vitamin A is important for healthy teeth, skin, bone and mucous membranes. It helps the vision system by promoting retinal health.

  • 4-5 chunks watermelon
  • 4-5 chunks cantaloupe
  • 4-5 chunks honeydew melon
  • Water
